The scent of the air. The wind in your hair. In the moment you are no where and everywhere. Something about standing on the shores of a great ocean as it rolls in and out draws you into a philosophical happy place.
Your heart beat slows and your blood pumps to match the ebb and flow of the mass of water in front of you. Your mind stills and refocuses. The breeze whispers secrets that your ears yearn to hear and the fingers of the wind lovingly tease your hair till it dances awake. You’re breathing calms to a steady deep pace and your muscles relax as the sand exfoliates your skin to a smooth baby soft texture. The sun kisses you golden and once again you feel loved and at home in your own body.
This year had been one that took a large bite out of many of us, chewed us up and spat us out without any ceremony or reward for surviving the ordeal. It was merely a rough year with a skeptical ending that left us questioning our existences and wondering down paths without any real direction. Answers were needed to the obscure, painful and life changing questions that those around us hurled carelessly towards our bruised, broken souls.
Yet, the more answers we needed the fewer we found. All we found was more chaotic confusion and options that cluttered our once clear minds. So like every lost soul, I wondered towards the holidays without any direction hoping that by some miracle the answers would be found somewhere in the tide. Standing at the shore waiting for it to calmly pull me towards clarity, I suppose.
The wonders of the ocean never seizes to amaze me. The secrets it hides and the answers it delivers. There’s something mystically awe-inspiring about walking along the shoreline as the waves kiss your toes and knowing that in the same waters is a whale, bigger than a fleet of buses, swimming along going about their daily lives completely oblivious to you. The continuity and diversity of what appears to be a never ending body of mystery holds answers to questions we weren’t aware we were asking. And, at its shores, I found peace…
After a year of toil and trouble, there is nothing more soul satisfying than a trip to the beach. If you ever have a chance I urge you to make your way to the seaside and embrace the wonders of God’s creation.
Staring at the waves and contemplating the year to come,
Brokebella😘
